Hyperlexia

Hyperlexia is a reading disorder when the child is able to decode visual material at speed, however, the language aspect and comprehension is not there. These pupils present as good readers and teachers may assume that they are able to understand what they are

reading. A hyperlexic learning difficulty is therefore a high level of reading accuracy accompanied by a low level of reading comprehension. These pupils struggle to attach language comprehension to visual symbolic information and / or text.
